One of the parks here has a lot of flowers in bloom. 入間市の公園なかにたくさんはなは満開をします。 It is so beautiful. とても打つくしです。
1Peter 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 1:24 because"All flesh is as grass,And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers,And its flower falls away,
Since we have an incorruptible seed blooming with in us we should not quench the growth but allow the fullness of Christ to break through the surface of our decaying flesh and shine into the lives of others who will appreciate his beauty.
以来、私たちは清廉潔白な種子を私たちに私たちは成長クエンチてはならないが、キリストの詰まった肉の腐敗と輝きの表面を通じて他人の生活に自分の美しさに感謝します休憩できるように開花している。 Like the flower out of the ground...we don't see the dirt from which it came.地面からの花のように...私たちは泥が表示されていないからだった。 We don't praise the dirt but we just love the flower and enjoy it's fragrance. 私たちは汚れていないけど、褒め言葉を愛し、それだけで花の香りをお楽しみください。 (If this is funny Japanese...This last part I cheated and used Google translate.) :O))
Fig is an acrostic for Faith in God from Mark 11:22. We as missionaries living in Japan enjoy our FIG in Japanese or In Nihon Go (ING). Here we are figing away in a beautiful country Japan. This started out as a place for family to get updates and pictures but now this goes all over the world. Praise God. May you be blessed as you read my posts. Some funny, some sad, & some really stupid and embarrassing for my family.

WHO says no more shopping for organs get your own
EDITORIAL: Revising the organ transplant law
2009/4/27
The Diet has suddenly become quite active about revising the law on organ transplants to allow organ donations from children.
In Japan, the current law prohibits transplanting a child's heart to another patient. This has led a string of Japanese patients to travel to the United States and other countries to receive transplant operations.
However, the World Health Organization (WHO) in May is expected to adopt a resolution restricting people from receiving organ transplants overseas. That is why there is the sudden rush in the Diet toward a new bill.
Organ transplantation is a unique branch of medicine that requires the death of a donor, and is inseparable from our individual views on life and death. We hope the lawmakers will debate carefully, based on a wide variety of perspectives, and arrive at an answer acceptable to a majority of the public.
Japan's Law on Organ Transplantation was created in 1997 to allow for organ transplants from brain dead donors.
After heated debate in the government's ad hoc committee on brain death, the government concluded that Japan had not reached a social consensus that brain death was indeed unconditional death. The compromise option was to recognize brain death as termination of human life only when organ transplants were called for.
In such cases, for the deceased to be recognized as an organ donor, the person would have had to leave his or her written consent. Therefore, based on the Civil Law that does not recognize a child's right to leave a will, it became impossible for anyone under 15 years old to become an organ donor.
But now, lawmakers from the ruling parties have submitted a bill that uniformly recognizes brain death as the definition of death for all people. The bill would also allow organ donations from brain-dead patients who had not refused to donate organs, as long as there is family consent.
Ruling party lawmakers have also proposed a bill that lowers the age limit of organ donors to 12, rather than the current 15, while maintaining the framework of the exiting transplant law.
The first proposal opens the door to child organ donations. But there is strong opposition even within the ruling parties against changing the fundamental framework of the current law.
In contrast, opposition lawmakers have submitted a bill that introduces more rigorous criteria for determining brain death.
Some lawmakers are also attempting to put together yet another bill.
We hope the lawmakers will try their best to come up with a bill that maintains the fundamentals of the current law and yet paves a path toward allowing child organ transplants.
The debate within the Lower House committee on April 21 can be viewed on the Diet website.
A transplant surgeon argued that it is unfair that Japanese children cannot receive transplants in their own country.
A pediatrician said there are cases of child patients surviving for months after being pronounced brain dead as well as cases in which the brain functions recover. There is no such thing as a fail-proof brain death diagnosis, the pediatrician said.
The doctor added that in the case of children, it takes time for parents to come to terms with their child's sudden death.
Last year, there were zero organ donations from children under 16, even after cardiac arrest. During the previous two years, there were only one each.
2004 saw the largest number of organ donations from minors after cardiac arrest in recent years. But the figure was only five. The number of child organ donations is not likely to increase easily.
On the other hand, an emergency physician recognized the necessity of brain death transplants, but he also referred to the stark realities of emergency rescue medicine.
It is absolutely necessary for doctors to do their utmost to save the child's life before the organs are donated. The same goes for adult donors.
If the emergency rescue medical staff are too tired to perform well, that can also throw a shadow upon organ donations.
Ever since the transplant law came into effect, there have been only 81 cases of brain death transplants. There is no question this figure is extremely small by global standards.
Now that debate over this issue is becoming increasingly active, this is a great opportunity to reach a social consensus. We will closely watch how the Diet will work out a compromise.

Otouro Matusri
It is supposedly a 700 year old festival. I am not sure the meaning of Otouro but it has to do something with either paper lanterns or stone. They danced with paper so I might be safe to side with that. My wife lived for more than 20 years in the US and isn't familiar with the festivals. The are praising some gods that is for sure. The city jinja and Otera were decorated to invite people to go and worship at these places. They have the taiko drums drumming that has a very melodic repetitive beat that just can drive you nuts. The Ladies dancing were at least 40 to 50 women getting into the groove of this click clack dance. They had these clackers that made a real loud noise and they did a very lively dance. I was asking Mihoko do they just practice this dance all year round like a square dance club. This is the clacker club. It might be like the clap on clap off club many of you are apart of.
The one thing that just turned our stomach was that the vendor guys were all smoking over the very food they were cooking. No hats and in that one picture the guy has an ash that is about ready to fall into the yakiniku he is making or was it takoyaki. I only remember the cigarette and the grossed out feeling I had. It was a definite culture shock. Japan still allows smoking in the restaurants here. They are getting better but some places we just can't go into because the separation is a wood divider on a table for 4 and they will have 2 smokers on one side and 2 non-smokers on the other. You can see over the divider and it is very disgusting. Anyway, pray we can adjust and not get second hand smoke cancer. We didn't learn about this festival until a week ago. Pray that in the future we can use these festivals to pass out tracks and even go for a booth to bless the kids and love on the citizens.

Don't shoot the baby
I got a good laugh out of this product I saw in a 99 cent store. They call them hyakuen shops(100 Yen). Anyway this product is a barf/trash bag for your kid to hang from the back of the front seat of the car. I am not sure if the play on words is to shoot the trash or the gero or what? It just gave be a good laugh. Don't shoot the Baby?

Nathan turned 11 on the 14th but be had a sleepover DS party on the 18. It was so much fun. The Lord has blessed us with really good friends that love Jesus and the Mommies and Daddies are teaching them well. I was very blessed to see Nathan step up to the plate and lead a devotion with the kids before off to bed. Then they were up at 5am playing more DS games. Nathan was so blessed. Thank you guys for coming to Nathan's party it was great fun. Keep serving Jesus.
The Sun was out on Sunday morning and just before we all left for Church Mihoko threw a mini tea party for the ladies on the balcony. Erika and Rachel are such good friends. Rachel loves Erika and she just wants to play with her. Jane too and they loved the strawberries and sipping fruit punch tea. Shhh they don't know it was just really fruit punch. Or did they?

Antique shopping? or Bargains?
Iruma Seiyoukan or Foreigner house
Our family went on a mini field trip to the seiyoukan building. It is a western style house built back in the late 1800s and is only open certain days of the month. It was nice to see the ornate wood working of the colonial style brick house and the beautiful furniture.
There was a wealthy silk farmer who became a Christian in the late 1800's. He was dealing with Western silk dealers from New York and wanted to accommodate them by building them a home where they could stay with all the amenities of a western style home. The Christianity spread so that there was a need to build a church to accommodate the new Christians in one place. The Ishikawa family built a Church as the small revival swept through the villages in the area. The industry was known to be harsh to the workers with low pay and benefits. The Ishikawa family sought to reverse the trend by extending blessings to the workers and treating them better than the norm for that day. Pray for another move of the Holy Spirit here in Iruma.

CAJ thrift sale
We were privileged to attend the semi-annual CAJ (Christian Academy of Japan's) thrift sale today. Missionaries from all over Tokyo donate items to be sold or have items they sale on consignment. It is better than a goodwill sale and we got some cool items for ministry really cheap. I got a set of wood blocks for a children's nursery when we get one. Mihoko scored some stuff of tea party items and a few personal things as well. Praise God for CAJ putting this on. It really ministers to a lot of people.

Nathan got blessed
Nathan got blessed by someone from home. He is so happy. Look at that candy so much for my calorie counting. There is a saboteur a foot. My diet has died again. In the box were those Easter Peanut Butter Eggs covered in Chocolate. The kids are not big fans and Mihoko just doesn't like the PB taste so I get to be the beneficiary. Oh I am enjoying them so much. I pray for Jesus to come quickly so I can get a new heavenly body and not fight my flesh. The DS game made him so happy. I should just return the gifts I got him as they are shelved for a while. Anyway, God bless you for the blessing you have given to Nathan. He says he loves you so much but I truly believe it is because it's you and not the gifts you give. Although you rock in his mind.

Nathan's 11th Birthday
On April 14th, 11 years ago around 2pm Nathan came into the world. We celebrated his life and are very proud of our Nathan and all he is putting up with and us moving here to Japan. We had a fun time together just as a family. We had some cake and he opened his presents. Rachel got him a Boomerang and Jane got him some face mask cream. It was funny but really he has already pimples sometimes and he needs the deep cleansing masks to beautify. I'll take a picture of him in a mask. He also got a DS game cartridge. It was a blessing to be able to celebrate his healthy life. God bless you son may God grow you to excel in the things of Christ. We love you Nathan.
